PRESENTEEISM ASSESSMENT MODULE
Presenteeism is defined as active employee engagement in work. It is significantly impacted by chronic health conditions. Presenteeism is inclusive with a focus on cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement during work. Presenteeism is impacted in one of two ways by chronic health conditions; an inability to complete work and an inability to avoid distractions resulting in decreased productivity. Presenteeism, like absenteeism is cost measureable. For most chronic conditions, the cost associated with performance based work loss greatly exceeds the combined cost of absenteeism and medical treatment.
Corporate Health Management Solutions uses the Stanford Presenteeism Scale (SPS) to assess presenteeism loss due to chronic health conditions. The SPS has been used in several formats for more than a decade. It was developed with a goal of guiding investment decisions in worksite health programs, disease management programs and health benefit coverage. The SPS demonstrates a high degree of reliability and validity and is ideal for employers who seek a single scale to measure health-related productivity in diverse employee populations.
Corporate Health Management Solutions administers the SPS as an online tool. The 13-item assessment can be completed in 10-minutes. Results of the SPS are expressed as a percentage of work impairment and cost of impairment based on average employee pay. Results from the SPS can be combined with results from other Health@Work modules, e.g., AMT, ICDA, HPDMA, to obtain a more comprehensive quantification of the cost of impaired workforce health or the savings resulting from health promotion / disease management initiatives.
