HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENT MODULE
A health risk assessment (HRA) is a health questionnaire, used to provide individuals with an evaluation of their health risks and quality of life. Commonly an HRA incorporates three key elements - an extended questionnaire, a risk calculation or score, and some form of feedback.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control define an HRA as: "a systematic approach to collecting information from individuals that identifies risk factors, provides individualized feedback, and links the person with at least one intervention to promote health, sustain function and/or prevent disease." There are a range of different HRAs available, however most capture information relating to:
- Demographic characteristics - age, sex
- Lifestyle - exercise, smoking, alcohol intake, diet
- Personal and family medical history
- Physiological data - weight, height, blood pressure, cholesterol
- Attitudes and willingness to change behavior in order to improve health
It has been well established that results from HRAs are linked with several metrics used to assess healthcare and productivity costs. The number and magnitude of risks determined from HRAs are directly correlated with healthcare, absenteeism, and presenteeism costs. It is for these reasons that HRAs are a cornerstone to any comprehensive HPM strategy.
Corporate Health Management Solutions is enhancing its Health@Work platform to include an HRA. HRA module results will be combined with other Health@Work modules. Data from the HRA module will be used to demonstrate the value of health risk minimization and maintenance. HRA data will corroborate that that healthcare, absenteeism and presenteeism are directly correlated with health status as assessed by the HRA.
Health@Work HRA risks assessed will include:
- Preventative Health
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Emotional Health
- Drugs and Alcohol
- Safety
- Tobacco
- BMI
- Blood Pressure
